EXCLUSION IN INCLUSION: EXPERIENCES OF LEARNERS WITH ALBINISM IN SELECTED MAINSTREAM AND SPECIAL SCHOOLS IN ZAMBIA

Albinism is an inherited skin pigmentation condition which affects all races in the world. However, more conspicuous among black population because of absence leads to some whitish appearance. This also multiple disabling experiences individuals with albinism. The overriding aim study was establish learning learners albinism both regular and special schools. located within interpretive qualitative paradigm used a phenomenology research design. Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) explore detail how participants made sense their personal social world regard researchers conducted one-on-one interviews content – analyzed data. Parents albinism, teachers, school administrators participated interviews. findings revealed that schools’ tended exclude themselves from other so as avoid discrimination stereotypes surrounding condition. confirmed existence myths regarding further teachers schools were not patient did give them extra attention negative comments want classes. It observed majority felt secure rather than children supported idea where environment conducive for them. recommended inter alia government through Ministry Education should enhance teacher education programmes by providing requisite knowledge skills trainee serving on handling disabilities. School administrators, community raise sensitization awareness campaigns disability issues.
